UFC on Fuel TV 4: Munoz vs Weidman
Fresh off of UFC 148, fight fans barely have time to catch their breath before gearing up for another night of mixed martial arts action. Gamma fighter Chris “All American”Weidman takes on Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz this Wednesday night in the main event of the UFC’s latest card on Fuel TV. Given Anderson Silva ‘s TKO victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, it is likely that the winner of Weidman-Munoz will be the next man to challenge Silva for his seemingly untouchable middleweight title. The stakes have never been higher for these two middleweight contenders, so fans can expect an exciting bout in which both fighters look to score an impressive stoppage in order to earn their opportunity at UFC gold.
A Gamma fighter from the very beginning of his career, Weidman has a perfect 8-0 mixed martial arts record and is currently riding a 4-fight UFC win streak. His athleticism and strong wrestling background (he was a 2x All-American wrestler at Hofstra University) has enabled him to rapidly pick up jiu-jitsu, and his striking is developing nicely with the Serra-Longo fight team. Despite these formidable aspects of his game, Weidman’s most dangerous attribute as a fighter may be his mental toughness. He has taken big fights on short notice twice already in his young UFC career, he has shown the ability to persevere through fatigue, and he has proven that he is not intimidated by anyone. All of these things have led to the large hype that surrounds Weidman, which includes being crowned the 2011 UFC newcomer of the year by ufc.com. He will need to be at the top of his game in order to beat Munoz on Wednesday night, as Munoz is a tough wrestler with heavy hands and a big heart. Powered by Gamma as always, we believe that Weidman will get the job done and move one step closer to the UFC middleweight championship.
